eta Sports and Fitness Short Courses


The eta offers a range of Short Course Certificates that have an average duration of six months each. To enrol for any of these courses, students need only a Grade 10 qualification. The ten Short Courses can broadly be grouped into two categories:


The first five courses are gym-related; and the last five courses focus on coaching.



The five gym-related courses are:

  1. Indoor Cycling
  2. Aerobics, Step and Tone
  3. Pilates Mat
  4. Vinyasa Yoga
  5. Sport and Fitness Massage

These Short Course Certificates would qualify students to teach one of five types of gym classes.


Courses 1 [Indoor Cycling] and 2 [Aerobics, Step and Tone] are music and exercise related. 

Courses 3 [Pilates Mat], 4 [Vinyasa Yoga] and 5 [Sports and Fitness Massage] are focused on relaxation or stress release methods.


If you’re interested in working as a fitness instructor, any of these Short Courses would prove to be very valuable to your portfolio.



The five coaching-related courses are:


  1. Rugby Coaching
  2. Cricket Coaching
  3. Hockey Coaching
  4. Soccer Coaching
  5. Netball Coaching

These Short Course Certificates are all focused on typical school sports, which makes them extremely valuable to prospective teachers or students who wish to enter the sporting industry in a coaching capacity.
