What is Food and Beverage Service Studies?
Food and beverage service is the "food flow" (from the purchasing of the foods to service to the customer) mainly concerned with the delivery and presentation of the food to customer, after completion of the food production.
In this context, the Food and Beverage industry relates to the fields of catering, restaurants and fast food take-away establishments, as well as the different types of jobs available in those fields, most typically:
Why should I study the Skills Foundation Certificate in Food and Beverage Service?
An international Food and Beverage Service qualification is for anyone working – or planning to work – in the catering industry, particularly if you want to work in a range of countries.
The Skills Foundation Certificate in Food and Beverage Service is ideal for you if you are looking for your first job after leaving school in the catering industry and you need to learn the basics life skills. The Skills Foundation programme provides a broad introduction to the theory and practical sides of the basic life skills needed for food service, giving the necessary knowledge and practical experience to operate as a runner / busperson in a typical service outlet.
An internationally recognised qualification in Food and Beverage Service is recommended if you want a job in the catering industry in South Africa (and overseas).

Assessment and Award
Everyone who completes the course will receive a ‘Notification of Candidate Results’ from City and Guilds UK giving details of how they performed. If candidates successfully finish all the requirements of the Skills Foundation Award they will receive a Skills Foundation Award in Food and Beverage Service from City and Guilds UK.
